Stripping the Sideplates

1. Remove the circlip from the driveshaft and tap the splined end of the driveshaft to remove it from the sideplate.

2. Stand the sideplate ona bench. Heat the inside of the sideplate casting, when it is warm turn it over and the outer cone of the bearing will fall out together with the preload shims, preload spacer and the driveshaft bearing.

3. Inpsect the seals and the bearings and replace where necessary. Please note that it is important to fit new sideplate seals whenever they have been removed.

4. Reassemble in the reverse order taking care to fit the shims in the original position. If a new crownwheel and pinion has been fitted it will be necessary to check or reset the differential preload and backlash.
