Technical Specification

The EVD Transaxle was designed specifically for the SCCA-Enterprises Spec Racer Series. This gearbox is fitted with 5 forward gears and 1 reverse gear and all are selected using sequential actuation. Gears are selected by means of a ratchet actuator and a new dog design that was specifically designed for sequential actuation.

The maincase is cast in Aluminium Alloy and has one side plate cast integrally with the gearbox. This imparts greater stiffness to the maincase and also simplifies Differential setting up procedures. The differential is mounted on two Taper Roller Bearings to accept the associated end thrust and the backlash is adjusted by means of shims behind these bearings.

The pinion shaft is mounted on Back to Back Taper Roller Bearings mounted in the Maincase Bulkhead, this bearing is shimmed to set the pinion height.

All gears are manufactured from Heat treated steel to BS436 Grade 6, AGMA Grade 11.

Gear Pattern

5/R - R - N - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5

There is a stop at 5th gear to eliminate the possibility of actuating reverse gear while on the circuit. There is also a seperate stop pin coming down from 1st gear to neutral, this is to eliminate selecting neutral under braking into a corner. This stop pin must also be actuated to enable the gearbox to select 5/R from the reverse position. The 5/R position should only ever be actuated when tightening the Pinion shaft and Layshaft nuts.
